My good friend Catherine Bybee (who writes about scorching hot Highlanders, shifters and time travel!!!) found Forbidden on the shelves at Barnes and Noble in Glendale, California USA! And for a double thrill my book was sharing the shelf with my fellow debut Berkley author Lila DiPasqua!!
Today I'm over at Seductive Musings sharing bits and pieces about Forbidden, including one of my fave scenes in the book, and there's an exclusive excerpt up as well. There is also a giveaway!
For the last few years we've had resident doves in our back garden, and this year a pair built their nest right outside our back door on top of the light. Not really a great place because there's not much room but it was nice and secluded from the weather. We were very excited when she laid two eggs and we've been watching them over the last couple of weeks.
Yesterday afternoon, the doves were nowhere in sight and when we went outside to investigate we found half an egg shell on the ground. And then, some distance from the broken egg shell, we found a tiny chick.
Sooo sad. It was still soft. The other egg has been abandoned and we can't work out what happened. This afternoon the doves are back, but they're not going anywhere near their nest.
We buried the chick in a matchbox next to the grape vine.
I love this photo with the golf club and ball!!! Big thank you to Cathryn Brunet for taking it for me!!
If you fancy a giggle, hop on over to Seductive Musings where there is a fun post about a UK outfit called Butlers in the Buff, and yes it's exactly as it sounds :-) There is a very nice bottom on display as well.
The Romance Reviews have an exclusive excerpt posted from Forbidden - and they're also holding a fabbo contest with heaps of books to be won. All you need to do is become a follower of their blog!
And for another chance to win a copy of Forbidden, today I'm over at Tawny Weber answering her Quick Six! And *drum roll* can you believe I managed to bring both Clive Owen and Gerard Butler into the conversation?!?
Today I'm over at Smexy Books chatting about my heroine's magical abilities and my deliciously evil villain, Aeron. There is also a copy of Forbidden up for grabs!
The lovely Mandi has also reviewed Forbidden, and I love the quote she picked out!!!
Just want to give a quick shout out to two good friends who have new releases this week!
Shelley Munro has a historical romance from Carina Press, The Spurned Viscountess - here's the blurb and gorgeous cover:
She must marry him.
Cursed with the sight and rumors of witchcraft, Rosalind’s only chance at an ordinary life is marriage to Lucien, Viscount Hastings. She doesn’t expect love, only security and children of her own. Determined to go through with the wedding, she allows nothing she encounters at the gloomy Castle St. Clare to dissuade her.
He wants nothing to do with her.
Recently returned from the Continent, Lucien has no time for the English mouse his family has arranged for him to marry, not when he’s plotting to avenge the murder of his beloved Francesca. He has no intention of bedding Rosalind, not even to sire an heir.
Dark secrets will bind them.
Though spurned by her bridegroom, Rosalind turns to him for protection when she is plagued by a series of mysterious accidents and haunted by terrifying visions. Forced to keep Rosalind close, and tempted into passionate kisses, Lucien soon finds himself in grave danger of falling in love with his own wife…
And Helen Hardt has a contemporary erotic romance out from Ellora's Cave today - I love Helen's titles, they're so clever!!
Huge success has so far eluded musician Jane Rock. Coming from a modest background, she’s had to work hard for everything she has. When a music agent attends one of her rock band’s performances at a local club, she thinks her big break has finally come, until an inebriated—though handsome and muscular—patron spoils her show.
Classical pianist Chandler Hamilton has had most of his success handed to him due to his family name. He has his reasons for detesting rock music, but he finds himself drawn to beautiful and talented Jane. Although the two sizzle between the sheets, outside the bedroom they bicker endlessly and envy what they perceive as the other’s good fortune. When Jane needs a favor, Chandler resists. Can love blossom amid clashing notes and tempos?
I'm deep in the editing cave at the moment, not only on copy edits for Captive, but also revisions on my next book for my awesome agent. I foresee a lot of late nights in my immediate future!!
Today, however, I'm continuing my blog tour over at Unusual Historicals with the lovely Carrie Lofty where I'm chatting a little about the historical background of the world of Forbidden. If you have time I'd love you to stop by and say hi! And there's a copy of Forbidden up for grabs too - winner announced at the end of the week!
Today I'm having some fun over at my lovely friend Eleni's Taverna, where I'm chatting about how the idea of Forbidden came to me and why I chose to write in an ancient setting. We'd love to see you over there plus there's a copy of Forbidden up for grabs!
I actually did some writing today!! And realised it's been over a month since I finished my last book - since this time last month I was in Sydney already (it doesn't seem possible conference was that long ago!) Anyway, I knew it was time to tackle my revisions on Captive as I was starting to get twitchy. It felt good to be back in writing mode and I fell in love with my hero all over again. There's only four and a half months until it hits the shelves!!!
Speaking of Captive, here's the wonderfully dark and atmospheric cover. It really captures the tone of the book. And if you'd like to see some more fabulous work by the awesome artist, Tony Mauro, here is his website!
Forbidden has been sighted in Borders! OMG and look at who's rubbing shoulders with my Maximus and Carys!!! Huge thanks to my lovely agent sister, Jenny Brown, who took this picture! Jenny's debut from Avon, Lord Lightning, is the first in a new series of Regency historical romances with an astrological theme and is out later this month. Can't wait to read it!
And look! My other lovely agent sister, Laurie London, whose debut from Harlequin, Bonded by Blood, will be out in February 2011, took a pic of Forbidden on her nook!
If you see Forbidden in your local bookstore, please let me know!!!
I'm over at Magical Musings today, talking about that elusive thing called Voice that agents and editors search for in their slush piles. I'd love to see you over there, as I share how long it took me to find my voice - despite the fact I was convinced I'd discovered it ten years ago. Um, no! And ~ there's a copy of Forbidden for one lucky commenter!

In my excitement yesterday, I put the wrong link up for Romance Bandits *smacks head* The sidebar linked OK but the one in my post went off for a little wander. There's still time to hop over and say hi!!
I'm also over chatting with the lovely Rita at Not Another Romance Blog, where I'm happy to answer questions on my Roman/Druid world. And hot warriors. I'm always happy to discuss hot warriors *heh heh* There is a copy of Forbidden up for grabs at both blogs!
I'm also thrilled with two more reviews that came through over the last couple of days.
Has at The Book Pushers gave Forbidden a wonderful B Review, and here is a snippet:
"The sexy elements of the book did not overpower the plot or the characterisation, but added to their love story. The real heart of the book is the emotional elements between them, and I really liked how that was played out throughout the book. Although the well written love scenes added a sensual layer of heat and passion, and *fans self*, I will never think of Roman Baths the same way again." The rest of this review can be found here
And Becky Pena at Fresh Fiction:
"FORBIDDEN is full of erotic goodness and endless action. Carys and her lover are not helpless beings but both use faith to succeed. A good chunk of this novel is about a woman's inner struggle between what she believes and what she desires, and her unwavering faith in a goddess who may have abandoned her. You will love this novel and agree when I say... I can't wait for the next installment in the Forbidden series." The rest of the review can be found here.
And the winner of a signed copy of Forbidden for helping to spread the world about my Launch Party is....
Emmeline Lock
Congratulations, Emmeline!!
Please contact me at ChristinapPh @ gmail dot com (no spaces) with your details and I'll get Maximus in the post to you!! (Well OK, a copy of Forbidden, then!)
I'm over at Not Another Romance Blog talking about my magical heroine and sexy warrior and the world of Forbidden and I'd love some company!!! There's also a copy of Forbidden for one lucky commenter!!!
There's still time to comment on Emily, Shelley and Lila's posts, but hurry! The winners will be picked soon. And then we'll be drawing the lucky winner of the fabulous four book bundle!! Not long now!!!
And first up, the winner of Erica Hayes's Poison Kissed is Mel Teshco! Mel, please contact Erica at ez @ ericahayes dot net (no spaces) with your details!
The winner of Kandy Shepherd's Love Is A Four Legged Word is Chelsea! Chelsea, please contact Kandy at kandy @ kandyshepherd dot com (no spaces) with your details!

Just popping in to share a wonderful review I've received from Bookaholics Romance Book Club! The reviewer, Steph, awarded Forbidden 5 Stars, and here is a snippet of her review:
"This book was gritty and primal. I felt I was in the Romans times and I loved it! Maximus is pure, raw male and too sexy for words. I could understand by Carys was enthralled with him and wanted him despite him being her enemy. I am also a sucker for star crossed lovers and a really evil villain. It made this book very thrilling as I hoped Maximus and Carys would be able to evade Aeron’s nefarious plans and end up happily together."
This made me very happy!!!! If you'd like to read the full review, it's here.
Later today I'll be drawing a winner for the Spreading the Party Love contest, and have the winners for day five.
In the meantime, don't forget there's still lots of time to leave a comment on Emily, Shelley and Lila's posts!!
And now for my final guest on the Forbidden Launch party! Lila DiPasqua writes steamy retellings of classic fairy tales for Berkley Sensation. I first met Lila over at Facebook, where we discovered we were not only debut authors with the same publishing house but we also share the same awesome editor!
And here is Lila with her Fiery Tales!
Lila DiPasqua – Forbidden Fiery Tales!
I’ve written a historical romance anthology for Berkley. It’s rather scandalous. My debut novel, AWAKENED BY A KISS, is a Fiery Tales collection – steamy retellings of three classic fairy tales in the one book.I love it when historical heroes are sinfully seductive bad boys.
In AWAKENED BY A KISS, I’ve created three of them.
There is something about seeing an unrepentant rake fall hopelessly in love with the heroine that I find downright delicious. And in AWAKENED BY A KISS, my three heroes do fall for them – hard.
There is much that is forbidden in AWAKENED BY A KISS.Most of which is initiated by my three very different heroines.
In my retelling of Sleeping Beauty, Sleeping Beau, my heroine, Catherine, did something reckless. Outrageous. Something forbidden for any proper lady to do.One night she stole into the room of a handsome stranger – only after she’d tainted his wine with an aphrodisiac – and ultimately surrendered her innocence to him.Now she definitely had her reasons for her brazen behavior, but still. . . She wasn’t supposed to ever see him again. He wasn’t supposed to leave her with memories so heated, she couldn’t vanquish them – even after five years. And the man she’d drugged and experienced a night of pure raw ecstasy with, wasn’t supposed to turn out to be the bastard son of the King, gorgeous Adrien d’Aspe.Legitimized by His Majesty, Adrien is considered royalty.
When Catherine and Adrien meet five years later, their physical attraction is strong – no aphrodisiac needed!Adrien stirs tender feelings in Catherine, as well as hot desire. Despite the sizzling passion between them, she knows he can’t be hers, for many reasons. . . She’s engaged to another, about to enter a loveless marriage. . .
Anne de Vignon, is deeply involved in something forbidden. In Little Red Writing, Nicolas de Savignac, (a.k.a. le Loup – the wolf) has been assigned by the King to uncover the secret identity of the author writing scandalous stories about powerful courtiers. He never expected his investigation would lead to his grandmother's house, or to the beautiful, highly desirable Anne.Anne knows the stories being published under the penname Gilbert Leduc are against the law, but her desire to help woman compel her to keep writing them. She never should have succumbed to the charm and allure of the very man sent to arrest her.How can she be in love with Nicolas when he is on a mission to collapse her carefully crafted world?
Lastly, in Bewitching in Boots, Elisabeth isn’t your typical princess. She doesn’t have any interest in marrying a prince. She has her heart set on an impossible man: Tristan de Tiersonnier, the handsome ex-commander of the King’s private Guard. With his confident manner, his tall and powerful body, he exudes authority. And—gracious God—such potent sensuality. He makes Elisabeth ache. Heart and body. She’s been in love with him for years. But Tristan wants nothing to do with the King’s favorite daughter. He thinks she’s spoiled and untouchable.Dismissed from his distinguished position due to a recent injury he suffered in the line of duty, Tristan is suffering from wounded pride as well as a wounded leg.Elisabeth shows up at his chateau dress in men’s clothing, looking nothing like a man in her breeches and tight-fitted boots, demanding fencing lessons. Not the usual attire and request from a highborn lady.Forced to spend time with her, Tristan soon realizes she isn’t a coquette or the spoiled royal brat he thought her to be.She’s passionate, loving and loyal. But they both know that the King will soon select a new husband for her.A man of considerable rank, like the late – old – duke he’d picked as her husband the last time. Can a man who has been in service of his King ever hope to win the hand of the fair princess?

Little Red Writing: Nicolas de Savignac, Comte de Lambelle, has been assigned by the King to uncover the secret identity of the author writing scandalous stories about powerful courtiers. At age fourteen, Lila’s best friend sneaked a romance novel out of her grandmother’s house. After devouring it, Lila was hooked on romance novels for life. Today she lives with her real-life hero husband and three children and is a firm believer in the happily-ever-after. She loves history and enjoys traveling. She has been to four continents so far. Weaving in interesting historical facts she discovers during her travels, Lila write
s stories about historical alpha-heroes and the heroines who make them lose their hearts. Her debut novel, AWAKENED BY A KISS is featured in Doubleday as well as Rhapsody Book Clubs.
Erica is at AussieCon this week, but as soon as I hear back from her I'll announce the winner of her fabulous Poison Kissed so stay tuned!!!

On Tuesday, 7th September (release day for Forbidden!!!) I'm continuing the party at two awesome blogs - Romance Bandits and Not Another Romance Blog - and a copy of Forbidden is up for grabs at both places!!! At Romance Bandits I'm chatting about why I chose to write about Romans and Druids (hot warriors might possibly be one reason!!!) and at Not Another romance Blog I'm discussing a little about the background and world of the Forbidden series. I'd love to see you over there so we can continue partying all week!!!
My second guest on day six is Ellora's Cave, Samhain and Carina Press author Shelley Munro, who writes about hot shapeshifters and werewolves, and also futuristic, contemporary and historical romance. I first met up with Shelley online a few years ago, and she was very nice about my stalkerish habits!!! We finally met at the New Zealand conference last year and she is even lovelier in real-life! So here's Shelley with her forbidden love movie!
Princess Cruises
Forbidden Love
Hi everyone, and thanks to Christina for inviting me to her Forbidden party. When Christina invited us to her release party she said we should talk about a forbidden love we or one of our characters had experienced, a movie featuring forbidden love, or we should talk about Romans and Druids.
I have to admit it took me a while to decide on my topic.
Forbidden love? Me? Nope, I’m too much of a goody two shoes.
A movie? Hmm, maybe but which one?
Romans – Christina said we weren’t allowed to venture anywhere near Clive Owen, and she sounded so fierce, I backed away immediately, conceding defeat. Right, Clive Owen was out. I thought and I thought and I thought. Yep, that weird smell. It was me thinking.
Finally, at the very last minute, it came to me. One of my favorite movies actually features Forbidden Love.
The Mummy.
For me The Mummy has all the ingredients of a good movie. There’s the Egyptian setting, the historical element, the feisty heroine and the dashing hero. Brendan Fraser was HOT in this movie and there’s the forbidden love element.
Then there’s the adventure as they race across the desert to find the ancient city of Hamunaptra and the Book of the Living. There are camels and tombs and scarab beetles that like to eat people. Oh, and a creepy mummy.
The mummy is the high priest Imhotep who has a forbidden relationship with Anck Su Namun, the Pharaoh’s mistress. They love each other madly, but they’re going behind the pharaoh’s back, and it’s only a matter of time before their treachery is exposed. When their forbidden love is discovered, Anck commits suicide. Imhotep is cursed and buried alive. A very horrid death to be sure.
Fast forward to 1923 and our hero and heroine attempt to find the ancient city. Competitors are also searching for Hamunaptra and between the two groups they manage to release the cursed Imhotep mummy from his tomb.
Imhotep loves Anck Su so much he’s determined to resurrect her—his forbidden love—by using Evie, our heroine’s body. Evie and Rick are equally resolute this won’t happen. It’s a struggle to see who will emerge the victor. Forbidden love or the indomitable lovers Evie and Rick.
The Mummy stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah and Arnold Vosloo. It’s a rollicking good adventure that I highly recommend. There are two Mummy sequels—The Mummy Returns and Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
CONTEST: Have you seen this movie? Did you like it or is there another movie featuring Forbidden Love that you like better? Answer these questions or ask Shelley a question and go into a draw to win a download from her Ellora’s Cave backlist. (If you like The Mummy might I suggest Lynx to the Pharaoh, a historical paranormal set in Egypt?)
Shelley Munro lives in New Zealand and writes contemporary, paranormal and historical romance for Ellora’s Cave, Samhain Publishing and Carina Press. Her next release is The Spurned Viscountess, a gothic historical, due out from Carina Press on 20 September. There’s no forbidden love in The Spurned Viscountess, but Viscount Hastings is always forbidding his Viscountess to do things. You’ll have to read it to learn how often Rosalind listens to her husband. You can visit Shelley and learn about her books at http://www.shelleymunro.com
Oh I love The Mummy! And I always felt so sorry for Imhotep because seriously, Anck Su Namun didn't deserve his eternal love! If it wasn't for the whole flesh sucking, wanting-to-use-Evie's body thing, Imhotep was great hero material!!! (Does this make me warped?)
So to be in with a chance of winning one of Shelley's fabulous backlist titles from Ellora's Cave, have you seen this movie? Did you like it or is there another movie featuring Forbidden Love that you like better?
The winner of Amanda Ashby's Zombie Queen of Newbury High is Lisa R! Lisa, please contact Amanda at amanda @ amandaashby dot com (no spaces) with your details.
The winner of Robyn Grady's Fired Waitress, Hired Mistress ~or~ Every Girl's Secret Fantasy is CrystalGB! Crystal, please contact Robyn at robyn-grady @ hotmail dot com (no spaces) to let her know which book you'd like and your details!
And our final winner for day three, for a download of Cari Quinn's scorching hot Full Disclosure is Becca! Becca, please contact Cari at cariquinnauthor @ gmail dot com (no spaces) with your details!
Welcome to the final day of the launch party for Forbidden!
But what a supercharged packed day it is!! First up is Emily Gee who writes dark fantasy and her latest release, The Laurentine Spy has been nominated for the Sir Julius Vogel Award - congrats, Emily!
Over to Emily, who has visited some stunning locations and I am not at all jealous. At all. Well OK I am madly jealous but since Em is such a lovely person I won't hold it against her!!!
Confession time ... my favourite subject at school was Latin. Yes, I know, I was a geek, but I loved translating the poems of Catullus and the writings of Pliny (who was in Pompeii when Vesuvius erupted – and survived to write about it).
School is a long time ago now, and – alas – I’ve forgotten my Latin, but I still have a love for the Greco-Roman period. During my travels in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, I visited many an ancient ruin. The highlight would have to be the ruins of Palmyra in the Syrian desert, ruled by queen Zenobia until her capture by the Romans in AD 272.
The Greco-Roman period was a fascinating mixture of sophisticated culture and savage barbarism. The Romans had poets and philosophers, law courts and theatres – and they also had slavery and the savagery of gladiatorial combat and their legions conquered much of Europe and pressed into North Africa and the Middle East.
I love books set in the Greco-Roman world. Brenda Jagger’s Antonia (set in AD 69, during the Year of the Four Emperors) is excellent, as is Lindsey Davis’s The Silver Pigs, which brilliantly combines crime, humour, and romance in Rome and Britannia during AD 70. If you haven’t read either of these books, you must!
So, given my interest in this time period, you can imagine my excitement when I heard that Christina had written Forbidden! Greco-Roman period – check. Hot romance – check. Great writing – check. What more can a girl want?!
To celebrate the release of Forbidden, I’m giving away a copy of my latest fantasy novel, The Laurentine Spy, which combines spies, magic, romance, and an imaginary Elizabethan world. To be in the draw, tell me what you like most about the Greco-Roman period. The gladiators? The philosophers? Russell Crowe in a legionnaire’s uniform? Clive Owen wielding a sword?
Thank you, Emily!! And I'm sure it won't come as a huge surprise to know I'll pick Clive Owen wielding a sword. Or, in fact, wielding anything because I'm not that fussy when it comes to what Clive does and doesn't wield!!!
So to be in the draw to win a copy of Emily's fabulous book, what do you most like about the Greco-Roman era? (But just so you know, I'm not too keen when it comes to sharing my Clive!!!)
It doesn't seem possible, but the last day of the party has almost arrived!!! And here is a little treat, by way of Eric. Yum, thank you, Eric, for that sultry glance.
Now where was I...? Oh yes! I was just about to share our final three fabulous authors for Monday! First up will be fantasy author Emily Gee, then erotic romance author Shelley Munro and to round up this week of fun is Fiery Tales author Lila Dipasqua! So much juicy goodness yet to come!!!
Don't forget there's still time to comment on Erica, Cathryn, Mel, Kandy, Fiona and Pat's posts to be in with a chance of winning awesome books!!!
And now for my last guest on day five, children's author Pat Posner. Pat is another friend I met over at - you guessed it! - the eHarlequin boards about eight years ago (I can't believe it was that long ago!) Pat is the one who explained the mystery of "EP" to me (emotional punch and not "eternally perplexed" which is how I felt on receiving that response from editors!)So Pat, it's over to you!
Hi, Christina
Thank you for inviting me to the FORBIDDEN party and huge congratulations on the release of your debut novel. I can’t wait to read it!
I had a “forbidden love” when I was 14 (many moons ago). His name was Jed, he was 17 and forbidden to me because he rode a motorbike.
So there I was one day riding pillion, clutching my forbidden love around his waist, when he spotted my dad walking down the street towards us. Jed stops and yells at me to jump off quick. It was the days of frothy petticoats, full skirts and waspie belts (told you it was many moons ago). I was wearing a skirt I’d made myself and stitching a waistband to a skirt wasn’t my strong point. Anyway, I leapt off, caught my foot in the hem of my skirt and said skirt parted from the waistband and landed in a heap around my feet.
And there I was standing next to my forbidden love, on the pavement of a busy main road, in my frothy petticoat with Dad marching towards me.
I’ll never forget that walk home with me trying to hold my wrecked skirt around my waist and Dad silently furious until we got inside the house.
LOL – sent to bed for the rest of the day, pocket money cancelled and grounded for a month.
OMG Pat, too funny! But did you ever see Jed again, that's what I'd love to know!!! So, to be in the running of winning the fabulous four book bundle, what was your most embarrassing moment with your crush when you were a teen?
