I'm quite easily pleased, and last night I was pretty much over the moon when I discovered (via Google!!!) that Captive is up for pre-order at WH Smith in the UK! Growing up in England, WH Smith was a huge part of my life, and I used to spend most of my pocket money on the lovely Penguin classics. Captive is also up for pre-order at Tesco UK - and I used to do all my grocery shopping there for years, so this all feels very surreal and strange and exciting!

Don't forget to pop over to the Dark Side Dowunder blog tomorrow (Wednesday) to check out who won my Magic Thursday giveaway!

Go, Captive!

Join me over at the Dark Side Downunder blog, where I'm chatting about the goddesses who inspired me in my Forbidden series, and there's a chance to win an early copy of Captive!!

Huge thanks to my good friend, Tracey O'Hara, who made this awesome countdown widget for Captive! Tracey's second book in her fabulous Harper/Voyager Dark Brethren series, Death's Sweet Embrace, hits the shelves one week before Captive, so we're almost shelf sisters!!

If you'd like to post the widgets on your sites, please do!!!

And don't forget, on Thursday I'm over at the Dark Side Downunder blog where there's a chance to win a copy of either Forbidden or an early copy of Captive (when I receive my copies, probably mid January 2011)

Countdown...

I discovered another wonderful review for Forbidden the other day, from Katiebabs at Babbling About Books, and More:

"Christina Phillips has a nice way with words and setting up a story. Her love scenes have just the right amount of heat and should appeal to those readers who like a little more spice and passion. Forbidden was an enjoyable read by an author who can really tap into the emotions of her characters and the world around them. For a solid reading experience, I would recommend Forbidden."

That made me very happy!!!

I'm deep in the world of Enslaved now, and really enjoying getting to know both Nimue and Tacitus. I love when they surprise me with unexpected revelations from their past!

Babbling About Books...

If you've ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at an acquisitions meeting in a publishing house, agent Rachelle Gardner has a great blog post, highlighting two possible scenarios. I found it a fascinating read but also quite painful!!!

How a Book is Acquired...

My good friend and CP, Amanda Ashby, recently received a couple of ARCs for her upcoming YA novel, Fairy Bad Day. And OMG but they are sooo adorable!!! Look at that cool kick-ass sword!!

My life seriously couldn’t get any worse.

First, my rightful designation of dragon slayer is STOLEN right out from under me by Curtis Green. Sure, he’s really cute, but that doesn’t give him an excuse.

On top of that, I am assigned to slay fairies. I know what you’re thinking—how hard could it be, right? Wrong! These menacing beasts with their tiny hipster clothes and mocking sarcasm love taunting me. And they won’t STOP!

But the thing that tops my list of stuff to ruin my day? That would be the GIANT KILLER FAIRY that I have to hunt down and slay because I am the only one who can see it. There is someone who can help me. Unfortunatelyit’s Curtis.

It’s going to be a fairy bad day.

Fairy Bad Day ARCs!

If you are an Indian, Pakistani or Arabic bride that is about to get married soon, then you would be naturally be expecting to have mehndi designs on your hands and legs as your wedding day approaches.
Henna tattoos are in reality not only popular in the communities as mentioned above, but has also emerged as highly desirable designs to have on bodies of brides in other parts of the world as well. Wedding mehndi is thus one of the most highly-utilized body arts in the world today, and when you consider the beauty and the elegance that emanate from these mehndi designs, little wonder why they are so popular.

Having mehndi on your hand is without doubt appealing and attractive, but how does one make sure that the mehndi that you have on your hands and legs is safe and hazard-free. Black henna is probably the most popular type of henna out there, but how does one ensure that the black henna that you usually purchase from stores out there is safe? The safest way to tackle this problem is to make the henna yourself, but not many people out there know how to, and it would prove to be a time-consuming effort as well. Thus they end up purchasing ready-made henna, some that may not be actually made from the henna plant or leaves. Some of them are actually created with PPD, also known as para-phenylenediamine.

This substance is in reality black hair dye, and some individuals (and even companies) use PPD to create black henna. Unfortunately PPD can cause allergic reactions on one's skin, with side-effects such as itchiness, rashes, blistering and even permanent scarring reported in some cases. Using pure henna leaves to create henna would not create this complication, nevertheless when you add PPD, these allergic reactions could be expected if you have sensitive skin.
For those visiting tourist areas, you should be beware of those selling black henna with PPD incorporated within it. Usually the reaction to the skin happens after three days only, by then you would have left the area that you were visiting, and no one else would be accountable to your allergic reaction but you. Most western countries prohibit PPD usage on the skin, and even in hair dyes the composition should be less than 6%. Thus when you are finding for black henna, ensure that you obtain fully-natural black henna, or one that does not contain PPD. Safety first!

Cleaning of tattoos in the past was a real task, this is because it was seen as a mark that would remain forever. And those who needed to just get out their own did not have any good means to do that. But as technology increased, it came along with answers to some of these pressing issues. And now you can find a lot of ways to undo your tattoo.
These tattoo marks have it origins and the very reasons why people did them. But with time and with changes in the individual, people do not have the same feeling about their tattoos again and will wish to take them off, For some folks their tattoo is a sign that takes them back to matters they might want to harbour with them again. So a lot of folks have their own reasons to get their marks off the body. The good thing is that your tattoo marks can be removed now.
It was a hell of time in the past to remove tattoos and one had to subject the skin to very hash condition which even did not yield any better results. While some were cutting their skins other hard to burn themselves or sand it all in the name of removing tattoos. The new age has new ways of taking off your tattoo, and it is now somehow comforting to find that your tattoos can go, but it takes a little time to do this.
While some people will want to get off parts of their body tattoos, others think they are simply done with it and it must go. Some will also just want to make it less visible on their skin. So again the reasons will always be different from others. May be its clan you do not belong to again and you want their symbol off you as well.
But those who seek to wipe away entirely their marks can, do it with this vital simple measure. Do a lightening of the tattoo first before you fully take it off later. The lightening will help prepare the skin for a complete wipe later.
But some tattoos can be just difficult to deal with, some are such that you cannot really wipe it entirely, but whenever you come face to face with such a condition. You can take this option, cover up the difficult to erase portion with a colour which will match with your skin to make it unseen.
Because of the different tattoos and skin types, each situation of tattoo removal will have to go through a different method. But there are a lot of options to choose from. Your skin type and your tattoo might have to be considered to help you take it off.
That is why it is very advisable to go see a specialist first before you take off your tattoo. With a good examination on your skin and the type of tattoo you are wearing. You can be given the best option to deal with the tattoo. This could be crucial so you need help to decide well.

Tattoo Removal Options-Cleaning of tattoos

Angel tattoos can be made as a remembrance for a loved one, to represent one's spirituality or to portray innocence and contentment. Renaissance and medieval art have also used the imagery of these heavenly beings in order to enhance their own beauty and perfection. Angels can be male, female or androgynous.

Icons and Medieval Angels
Medieval art work often portrays great intricacy and perfection in a two dimensional manner with a lot of attention paid to the details. Greek and Russian art also use similar techniques and follow a similar train of thought as the Medieval age, although they are from different eras. The sources to find inspiration for such types of angelic designs are illuminated manuscripts and Orthodox icons.
A grand suggestion for such types of tattoos would be the painting of St. Michael conquering the dragon. This is a popular choice among our generation with angels in armour which can be a good representative of a guardian angel.

Renaissance Angels
Renaissance means change and tattoos deriving inspiration from this age of art also reflects the change. The angels drawn from this age are androgynous with lots of flowing robes and halos over their heads. Great Masters like Raphael, Albrecht Durer, Giovanni Francesco Barbieri and Gian Lorenzo Bernini are some from whose works we can draw inspiration for our designs. These should be drawn with a fine black line or grayscale work.

Graveyard and Memorial Angels
For the purpose of remembering a loved one whom one may have lost in death, the angels found in cemeteries over the tombstones may be good option options on which to base one's tattoos on. These angels are powerful portrayals of grief and loss which perfectly suit the purpose of making such tattoos. Many of them are designed with their heads bowed and their arms crossed. This posture can be made even more effective by adding a tribute in the form of some bold lettering.
